What an odd looking critter, never seen anything like it before, hybrid of some kind maybe? The head and fins look mackerel ish, the body that of a trout, strange!!

I know got me stumped As well. As: you said looks like a mackerel , till we got It up close, long body and the teeth of a mackerel but different body and markings. Caught on crab and in the sea on the bottom . Seemed fleshy like a mackerel and not bony like a scad if you know what I mean.

look at the tail segment , that will give you clues to the family this fish is from,
at first glance very sea trout like but the head and tail shape mackerel family, so im gona say its a rare specie from the mackerel/tuna family........as this fish was caught devon way as well
the spotted flanks point towards a blue mackerel, but so many types impossible to say from a pic could be a whole host of different things
deffo not a sea bass

m No sorry feller . Good try . I agree with most , think one of mackerel family . I beleave It to be a chub mackerel . If I right this one was 1lb 5 oz and the british record for caught is beleaved to be 1lb10oz. Here's a couple of pics . 1of taken next to a normal mackerel. Thanks for the replys . This was a bit of a mission to find out what It was for me and me mates lol Attachments:

it doesn't look the same fish as the one in the bucket, perhaps the photograph got deflected through the water.

I asure you It is the same fish As in the bucket . Funny how taking a photo in water gets deflected. Had It id at brixham fish market . The nose gave It away with It being see though . Chub mackerel. Heres another photo of a friend holding the head next to a mackerel. Note the nose . I was told not very often they show up .
