My learning on multis is coming along nicely using my penn 525 supermags.....but.....I wondered if anybody who owns a 7HT mag has formed an opinion on it yet. I keep seeing em for sale on "that" bidding site now and again and keep getting tempted as mag braked reels appeal to my easy to use nature....and I just may have to get one to try out Daiwas mag reel.....if fellers think there worth the outlay. i know a few with them and they all say the turbo is the better reel out of the three but the handle is not as good as the mag.

hhhmmmm me mate Phil in the new forest sold his Turbo in favour of the mag and reckins it was the best decision he made as he (although already a good OTG caster) can get better distance with it. I would like to read users thoughts on em though micky.

I've had a 525 mag and an Elite Mag and I now own a pair of 7HT mags and while i appreciate that some people are not fans of them, I cannot fault them and my opinion is that the engimneering is better than the other two!! buy one ,you won't be disappointed!!

I just bought a 7th Mag on Friday, used it once so far and can't fault it. I also own a penn 525 super mag but personally find the 7th mag easier to cast. I certainly managed to get a few more yards further, very smooth action. However, I did manage to nest it a couple of times before I managed to find the right settings for me.

i v got a black 7ht and i had less nest in 4 weeks than when i had on the 525 mags in one night so the 7ht mag must be the dogs dangles i reckon

I have a 525 mag and a abu c3 ct mag both are great, as a beginner with multi's i prefer the 525 at the moment, but have read and heard great things about the 7Ht mag and i would consider getting a second hand one for my third rod Mark.

As I stated on a previous thread I have just got one as a birthday present at the end of November. I am waiting on my sonic 14 foot sk3 as I don't want to put it on one of my older rods. I expect the rod to arrive on Tuesday and will be trying to get out with them as soon as I possibly can. I will keep you updated on how I get on with it.

Thats true abuc4 but I only have to wait untill tomorrow and my new rod will arrive so I can get down to the fields and get them tuned in. Unfortunately I am night shift tomorrow night for the next 7 nights so will have to wait until I am off to get a cast into the fish (hopefully).

Got out eventualy the other day. Had my Sonik and the new 7HT mag. Thought at first that I was going to have problems as I was nesting every cast. However after slowing my self down and concentrating more on perfecting the cast rather than going for mega distance I found that it was such a breeze. I cranked the Mag brakes right up to max and then took it easy reducing the mags breaks eventualy down to mark 6 where I did not get nests. I was casting 100 meters + with absalutely no effort or agression. At notch 5 started to nest regular. I ran out of time doing my set up on the park and headed to the sea. I then seemed to cast flawlessly and just got better and gained confidence in the rod & reel every time I casted or retrieved.
I filled it with 20lbs main line and was casting a 6 oz weight with 60Lb shock leader. On arrival at the fishing point I added a single hook of 6.0 and fished numerous cocktails and sizes of baits. The rod and reel handled what ever I put on with no problems what so ever. Unfortunately did not get to test it against a fish, LOL.
The reel is the smoothest I have had and the retrieval was good. I was fishing very rough ground and had to apply a lot of pressure on numerous occassions and never once felt that either rod or reel would let me down. Cant say I noticed any adverse vibrations or noise either.
I do believe that with time and practice I will gain more distance and at the same time confidence. The reel will help to make my fishing a lot easier and more refined. I realise that this was the first time I have used it and could be being a bit premature on my praise but will promiss to give an honest write up in a few months onces I have used it a lot more.
All that being said, I have already made a descision to get myself a second one wich I intend on loading with lighter line so that I can cast further and concentrate on the smaller species. TBC.
