Hi all, My name is Tim and I live in Littlestone, Kent. Mainly a boat fisherman fishing with my mate in his boat (Warrior 175) from Dymchurch, but intend to do more beach angling this year, probably targeting bass but love to catch anything. We boat fish all year and catch mainly cod from September to January near to Dungeness Point, but this year the fish just stayed and even heard of some still being caught a few weeks ago. From March through to August we tend to concentrate on wreck fishing either drifting for bass and pollack or anchoring for bream and conger plus whatever is feeding on the day. In September we tow the boat to Ireland and fish the Cork Small Boats Festival for ten days which is excellent. Its a bit different from our usual fishing as it is a species hunt. There are normally 25-30 boats fishing and an amazing variety of species are caught each year, with last years winning boat having 27 over 3 days. Our best results was 5th 2 years ago with 20 species. Might have to pick your brains on the species we struggle with, think we will keep going till we win!!! might be some time yet but we learn something new each year we go. Anyway ill stop rabbiting before you all fall asleep. Good fishing and tight lines! P.S. i am the webmaster for our club website, feel free to have a browse, theres plenty of pictures of fish caught by our members and regular catch reports/pics and competiton results. www.dymchurch-angling.co.uk

thanks squidhead, Dunno if you've fished Ireland at all but that doesnt really matter anyway i guess, apart from the lack of any real tidal movement compared with our home waters, with the exception of the entrance to Cork harbour which has strong tides at peak flow. We can usually get to 16 to 18 species with not too much trouble, although couldnt even catch a sizeable scad last year!! Anyway, the main species we seek are red gurnard, tub gurnard (greys are common), corkwing wrasse. goldsinny wrasse, silver eels and grey mullet. I know the grey mullet and eels must be pretty common in the estuary but it knowing where to fish i guess. We have seen grey mullet in an area in the upper reaches of the estuary, was gonna anchor or tie onto an empty mooring there and hang a bread bag over the side and trot back some bread flake, didnt get to try that last year as we were concentraing our efforts on the easier (for us) species. Anyway, any help would be useful on these species mentioned above, i.e. types of ground, rigs and bait. One thing that really frustrates us is trying to catch a sizeable pouting!!! there are like rocking horse s**t out there, loads of poor cod though!! Any help much appreciated. www.dymchurch-angling.co.uk

Yeah no probs Pete, any time, its a really good comp with great launching facilities, you can launch/recover 3 boats at a time on the wide slip, floating straight of the trailer (we are used to beacl launch/recover on a sandy beach so we love it!). The other good thing is that its normally fished whatever the weather. You can have a SW gale and still get to fish in the large natural harbour. The accomodation is good with most boats staying at the holiday village (Trobolgan) so all down the bar in the evening. Def a good craic!!
Feel free the ask for any more info,
Good fishing
cheers
Tim

welcome tim nice to have another kent member.could you give us some advice on dengemarsh if possible.we will have enough kent members to mount a serious challenge to these western boys now at the next species hunt. we fished ireland and it is like heaven, the people are great ,the pubs dont shut and the fishing is unbeatable.i went to killarny on the south west coast with 2 england boys and me brother and what an experience.caloo rock was incredible and everyone who can hold a rod should give it a go.we also fished a species comp over the week and between us landed 24 diff fish from the shore.i had 18 and lost by 3.great format and very frustrating for i spent hours trying to land a gar and failed.me brother bought in three on a set of feathers in one go.gets you thinking about your fishing and better than killing lots of fish at a weigh in.we are fishing the winter beach this year and i cannot wait, teams from all over europe and 3 teams from southeast kent already going.dont know what to expect but being in january it will be good old winter fishing and i cant see the float coming out much.i am going to get in touch with steve the gillet we stayed with and get him to join the forum.come on the irish
