Whoops soz Skaty, missed the Silhouette beach rod and now see what you mean. However I personally would not want a rod that long mainly because I have already adjusted my OTG casting style to 12 -13 ft (as you know) and suspect I would have to start over. As I am already approaching 150 yds with FS, which is all I want to do, I think I will stay with that length even if I do get a new rod sometime. Agree with Slippery that this rod business is a bit personal. I have a chinese rod with a floppy tip bought a few years ago which does not do the business because it is too floppy also have a Grauvell cheapie which is too stiff and hard to "compress" The best rod I have actually tried is my mate's Ron Thompson 12 ft carbostick and I would recommend that to anyone (so would he). I am 5'11" and about 12.5 stone, he is 6' 2" and 18 stone just to give you an idea of our relative strengths but a 5' 6" 9 stoner might struggle a bit. Anyway, the RT rod was about £80 but I think some dealers are now selling them for less.

Stick some tg's liquid grease rocket fuel in the bearings when your begining it cost a fiver but then so does 2 spools of line!!!!! Oh and I have found most NOT all tackle shop will push what they make the most ££££££ on veals is a good tool but its for heavy work, i think, not really the tool to be swinging around learning but i may be wrong..........

getting back to the subject........... Broke me own "salt record today" have been averaging about 80 yds with a Lob F/S .....15lb line OTG cast with the same set up.........crap 40 yds "splosh"........60 yds"splosh".....bloody hopeless
step up the new kiddy.....Mr Unitech Cast all new and shiny...... 10 foot drop to lead ...swing back to 10 O clock head height......swing back past me to 5 O clock at head height.........swing round over and through 112 yds.........yippee broke the 100 barrier for the "first time" with 5oz.........ok ok so its shiiiite to you guys but to me its a massive break through. Marked the line with black marker and measured at home. ok,,,.....so I only did 4 others over 100 out of about 25 casts.............but its a start and there was me yesterday.slaggin off me Daiwa Sandstorm broomhandle....lolol....bless
Im gonna have a bevvy to celebrate my breakthrough..lol
PS.....ok so it wasnt a rig with bait......take off another 30 yds i guess...lolol
Gaz ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Have you read the latest Total Sea Fishing because there is an article about casting the easy way. Being serious casting is just like golf or fly fishing, it is all in the timing[/color and with modern lighter rods it is much more easy. These days there are quite a few videos you can watch,Phil Hyde, John Holden and Neil Mackellow, so just get out and practiced I am sure you will break the 200yards in no time. Good luck

Thats a long term goal Ant,I will be very happy to reach 120ish yards to enable me to pick up a few stray flatties on south coast marks....... and yes ive bored meself silly watching and re watching the vids from all who you mentioned...... and yes again........the timing is critical ive found that out very quickly .....but Rome wasnt......etc check out the vid at the top of this post.... The Unitech cast the mid air version is the one im having most success with......... Gaz

have you tried a 6oz that was suggested to me when I was learning and it worked big time it slowed me down and gave better contact with the lead meaning improved technique better distances got to the point I had to change rods after exploding a abu tournament beach power and the 2 replacements in as many weeks, i went from 120yards to 210yards in a afternoon until the rod went in to about a dozen pieces(they were total shiyte!), try not to think to much about what you are doing either as things seem to get real complicated and go very tits! push the lead away pull it back turn ya head before the lead peaks on the back swing and go for it........ play with your drop too, each rod has a preferred working drop. I use a 10ft drop on my Grey's pz300t's and on my old Grey's Apollo it would work with around 7ft, and my bass rod 5ft. It will all come together and sounds like you ain't far off............ When you start suffering spool slip and have to use a casting strap to grip the spool thats when you have it right, it really is 80% technique 20%power...... get somebody to video you watch that, you see your mistakes then you dont practice bad habits which are really hard to iron out later........

Well done Skaty, glad to hear you are getting there. I know about unitech and have done it but OTG gets me further. I am also well aware that as Slip says you need to keep working on it; in fact as I am going for a flatty session this afternoon's high tide, I will go outside and do a few practice swipes now.

Thanks....feller,s for the support,I feel Im on an Island stuck here 100 miles away....aint much fun motivating yaself to "Go down the lake"...again But now ive reached my first milestone..its getting easier to go...and hopefully mark the line with new distances. With the F/S slipp I use the breakaway cannon mate, I just let go of the trigger anytime to release the cast no more "line burn" on me finger tip. Mind you now ive got a multi.......I can start to burn em all over again soon....lol By the way....you certainly smashed some rods during your learning period.....I dont have the financial luxury mate......and yes I will play with the drop I just figured if I had a 6ft rig...id leave 4 foot clearance. But as you say.......each rod has its fav drop point. Ill persiveer with the OTG Eccles, but even laying the lead in a 5 foot plastic gutter,,and doin all the javelin "stuff" I cant seem to generate bugga all power from a "dead stop" Hence me doing better with the moving Unitech cast. Anyway.......enough O this thanks for your help all Gaz

I didnt have the finicial luxruy i just got right up abu's nose to the point of sending me a 7000 instead on the 3rd breakage! all i wanted was my money back! i swapped the reel for a conoflex and broke that too!!!!!!!!!!!!! but i have found the unbreakable and have managed to pick them up cheap second hand over the years. I HATE ABU rubbish customer care in that is a fact according to a tackle shop, they say they are getting worse as well!!!!
