Hi all, i`m going to try and get out spinning a bit more this summer. I`m not all that into day light bait fishing over here as its generally crap, so spinning is the only option really. So.....i`m after a good spinning rod, fixed spool version around the 60 to 70gram casting limit, or one that is a bit heavier but can still cast the smaller lure. I was put onto the greys grx spin, but its discontinued and i`m having a job to find a place that has them in stock. Also the mike ladle rod is ok by all accounts. Any suggestions or experiences would be great . Looking around the 100 quid mark.....

dont think you'll go wrong with the Mike Ladle rods but from the shore 11ft and casting to around 90/100 gram would be more useful...

I use an 11 foot carp rod mate, I find it crucial for putting Dexter Wedges beyond 80-odd yards when the fish are feeding at distance. I got it about 10 years ago for £50, still going strong

should have added that they are more plugging and spoon rods, spinners are generally lighter in construction and not that aerodynamic, may be quite hard to cast any distance with them.

Well, a lot of carp anglers are complete tackle tarts so don't go asking that on a coarse forum!!
Mine is a Sundridge blank, custom built 2.5lb test curve (will cast 2oz of lead easy, would do 3oz too at a push).

Dave, Don't know whether you would want to consider this but I have used an light Abu carbon uptider for spinning for spinning/mackerel for the last 6 years. 9.5 ft long and actually rated up to 6ozs but it will chuck a small weight around 70 yds on a good day. Two piece so easy to carry around but with enough strength to control a sizeable bass if needs be. I think they are around £50 now or £80 for the posher version.

I would prefer to use a decent plugging rod. I think the action of the rod is different to that of most carp rods. I use a carp rod from the boat now then but the faster action of a purpose built rod is more suited to putting life into lures.

Thanks for all or your suggestions, i`ll look into all of them. I`m also drawn towards the greys bze 2 to 3oz. Does anyone know if they are rung for egg beaters? I would have a surf around the net a bit more, but i`m temporarily back on this slow bloody laptop and i have no patience to keep looking at slow sites at the moment.

I have a bze 3-5 oz F/s version and although its a nice rod, the action is not what you'd expect from a lure rod, more through action. It will however cast 4 oz a fair distance, even for a non-casting boat angler like me. I use it whenever I venture onto the beach and have landed a 15lb smutt on it from lepe in the summer. I also have a standard grx beach caster and cant get on with the thing at all. Am still waiting for someone to show me how to get the best from it.

Cheers furdy, i`m on about the 2 to 3oz bze as two once is around 60gram. That will do me for the heavier dexter/ some bigger bubble float casting / bass fishing all in one! I also have the grx-s....it took some getting used to mainly as its a longer rod than i was ever used too. I was spooning it all over the place but i have settled to it now and can easily get 100yrds+ with a large bait and an over head thump. Cheers for the info!

save all the big money and get one of these Dave. Its done me for 3oz leads and bait with an easy 50yds cast same lead with feathers for mackeral....now that is fun on this.!!! Spoons and lures up to 4oz casting weight. Float fishing off the rox in Devon.......O and the Pike aint fussy either as its good for Poppin.....all that for under £40 squid and its ok for FS and Multi as the rings are mid set off the blank. 2 piece with a fastish action that really throws a lure well. have a gander,,!!!!!!!!!! www.cheshirefishing.co.uk/shop/leeda/ikonsea.htmGazza
